The Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) Annual Meeting was held May 14-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Emergency Medicine (EM) educators from across the world gathered to share research, attend education-centered boot camps, and collaborate in workshops on topics ranging from Grant Writing to Wilderness Medicine. Several of our UCI emergency physicians presented their research at the annual conference:
Dr. Isabel Algaze Gonzalez conducted the Wilderness Medicine pre-conference.
Dr. Bharath Chakravarthy and Dr. Soheil Saadat presented three collaborative research studies on Suicide Attempts in Emergency Departments
Dr. Victor Cisneros (PGY-2) presented the collaborative research study on “Feasibility of a Food Insecurity Screening and Referral Pilot Program in the Emergency Department.”
Dr. Wirachin Hoonpongsimanont presented two collaborative research studies on the use of alcohol in Trauma patients.
Dr. Mark Langdorf, Dr. Shahram Lotfipour and colleagues presented at the Section Editor and Editorial Board Meeting for the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine and the Clinical Practice and Cases in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Carl Schultz presented “The Risk of Cancer from Computed Tomography Scans and Other Radiation Sources: A Critical Methodological Appraisal.”
Dr. Shannon Toohey and Dr. Shahram Lotfipour presented on a panel “Meet the Editors: Top 10 Mistakes Made in Education Research and How to Avoid Them.”
Dr. Shannon Toohey presented on “Engaging Learners with Effective Didactic Teaching” with over 100 chief residents in the chief resident forum.
