The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Emergency Department Ultrasound Division hosted the second edition of the Point of Care Ultrasound Learning and Scanning Experience (P.U.L.S.E.) conference. Held on February 10, 2024, this event brought together healthcare professionals from various specialties aiming to enhance their proficiency in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
P.U.L.S.E. provided a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on learning. Rapid response nurses, emergency physicians, anesthesiologists, trauma surgeons, navy physicians, emergency medicine physician assistants, family medicine practitioners, and internal medicine physicians gathered at UCI to explore the applications of POCUS and deepen their understanding of its clinical significance.
Under the leadership of conference chairs Dr. Fox, Dr. Guy, and Dr. Hsu, alongside ultrasound fellows Dr. Dornhofer and Dr. Dos Santos, P.U.L.S.E. offered a program tailored to participants at all levels of expertise. Attendees engaged in workshops, didactic sessions, and practical demonstrations aimed at refining their POCUS skills.
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in real-time scanning experiences guided by mentors, enriching their clinical practice and empowering them to integrate POCUS into patient care.
Organizers are committed to expanding and enhancing P.U.L.S.E. to meet the evolving needs of healthcare professionals, delivering a comprehensive educational experience focused on practical skill development and clinical relevance.
P.U.L.S.E. exemplifies UCI's dedication to fostering excellence in medical education and innovation, leaving a lasting impact on ultrasound education and clinical practice. Anticipation is already building for the next conference, scheduled for the summer of 2024, where organizers aim to continue providing a valuable educational experience that meets the evolving needs of healthcare professionals.
